Back to School- Books for 2nd-4th Graders!

More and more areas are starting school earlier- or, in some places, going year-round, but in my neck of the woods, the end of August is still the time parents rejoice. Children moan. Teachers hope for well behaved kids (and parents).

Back to school.

I sure hope kids are still encouraged to read, even in this day of technology. Whether the favorable eco-friendly Kindle or Tablet, or the beautiful smell of a paperback, in all it’s paper glory- Books are books and reading remains one of the best daily relaxing escapes from our real world.

Here are some new releases (2018) that are recommended for 2nd – 4th graders:

  1.  Mega Bat, By Anna Humphrey:    A sweet and hilarious chapter book about a boy and a bat, two unlikely friends who bond over loneliness, jellyrolls and Darth Vader.
Is it a ghost? A creaky floorboard?  Or…is it MegaBat
  2. Young Whit and the Traitor’s Treasure, By Phil Lollar and Dave Arnold: This Odyssey book series explores the history of the much-loved character John Avery Whittaker. The series introduces newcomers to the larger world of Odyssey. For readers who are already Odyssey-philes, the novels provide the history of the franchise’s most important character.

  3. The Day you Begin, By Jacqueline Woodson:  National Book Award winner Jacqueline Woodson and two-time Pura Belpré Illustrator Award winner Rafael López have teamed up to create a poignant, yet heartening book about finding courage to connect, even when you feel scared and alone.

Check them out and tell me how you like them!
